Did you know that 74% of the 41 Million adults who camped/RVd last year in the USA use a smartphone on their trips?
Their top 5 Reasons:
1. Texting – 53%
2. GPS Location Services – 47%
3. Personal Email – 39%
4. Outdoor Related Activity Apps – 33%
5. News – 29%
The number one reason is TEXTING! I get it, because I too became addicted to my phone! It started as my connection to emails. Then my excuse was, “What if my children or parents need me?” Next excuse, Facebook, then it was, “I might need “Google” when something on my RV goes wrong and I have to fix it.” I noticed that my phone no longer sat in my purse, in my pocket or even beside me. It lived in my hand! My prefrontal cortex was suffering.
Over the last few years I have worked to change that. Often it was by accident, as this life of RVing often took me out of cell range.
The second most often used piece of technology is a portable USB Charger (30% of camping adults carry one with them on their trips.) I would definitely recommend this!!! You never know when you might find yourself without power and need to charge for an emergency.
Old fashion road trips have become my way of life and I love it!!! Some of my favorite places without cell service:
Niantic Sailboat, Rogue River in Oregon, Watching Fireflies in Tennessee Mountains, Shoshone, Fall Creek Falls, Yellowstone, Blue Ridge Mountains, Parasailing in Myrtle Beach, Kayaking in Chincoteague, Horseback Riding in Montana.
You should get out of your comfort zone and enjoy the great outdoors too! I would love to know about the places YOU find! Follow and post them on my Facebook page Climbing Mountains & Bumping Down Highways.
